Hanoi marks its 64th Liberation Day

(VOVWORLD) - Many city works in Hanoi were inaugurated to celebrate the capital city’s 64th Liberation Day on October 10. A flyover on An Duong street opened to traffic to help ease traffic congestion on a key road from Hanoi to Noi Bai International Airport.

Hoang Xuan Sang, Chairman of Yen Phu ward’s People’s Committee, said: “The flyover will make it more convenient to travel from Tay Ho precinct to Nhat Tan bridge and Noi Bai Airport.”

A water plant worth 217 million USD in Gia Lam district was inaugurated on Wednesday. Do Thi Kim Lien, Chairwoman of the Duong River Company’s Executive Board, said: “We have equipped the city utility with the most modern technology directly from the EU. We’ll be able to supply city dwellers as clean a quality of water as available in European countries.”

Van Lang bridge connecting national highways opened to traffic Wednesday. It will enhance connectivity between Hanoi, Phu Tho, and northwestern provinces.

Meanwhile, activities in Hanoi’s Old Quarter marked the 64th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day. 

A display of traditional crafts is underway at Kim Ngan Temple (42-44 Hang Bac Street, Hoan Kiem district). Visitors examined carving and jewelry and met with artisans from Hanoi’s craft villages.  A fashion show called “Hanoi Autumn”, featuring the latest fall/winter collections and performances of traditional music; will be held Saturday night in Phung Hung street.  

The young volunteers in the resistance war against the Americans were honored at a ceremony held on Tuesday by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Hanoi. Addressing the event, Chu Hong Minh, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union, said the capital city volunteers’ contribution to national construction set an example for Hanoi’s younger generations to follow.
