Delegates analyzed China’s intention following its placing of an oilrig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and the legal aspects of this action. They condemned China’s illegal acts, particularly the ramming and firing of water cannons at Vietnamese vessels. President of the Hanoi Federation of Science and Technology Associations Vu Hoan said: “Vietnam has showed restraint in recent days. The Vietnamese party and state continue with flexible and peaceful measures. We have sent to the world and the Chinese people our message that we want peace and that all differences should be settled through diplomacy, in accordance with international law. We should make the most of international support to expose China’s wrongful acts.”

The Hanoi Federation of Science and Technology Associations issued a statement protesting against China’s illegal acts. It demanded that China immediately withdraw its rig and escort ships from Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone. It also called on other countries and international organizations to voice their opposition to China’s dangerous acts and demand China abide by international law.
