The child-friendly initiative was launched in HCM city in 2015, focusing on improving the quality of life for children, from access to basic services and social protection to providing a green urban environment for them to thrive. Participants at the seminar discussed implementing the initiative across the 2017-2021 period.

“To best solve child-related issues, we need to ensure sufficient infrastructure, human resources, health care, education, protection, and cultural and entertainment services for children,” said Dang Hoa Nam, Director of the Department for Child Care and Protection.

The initiative lays the foundation for HCM city to become the first true child-friendly city in Vietnam and aims at expanding partnerships across civil society, the private sector and international organizations to improve the situation of children in poverty and those at risk of exploitation and abuse.
