In an urgent document, the Ministry asked agencies and organizations to strictly adhere to its guidelines on prevention, monitoring, diagnosis, and treatment of monkeypox.

Vietnam’s first monkeypox patient is a 35-year-old woman who contracted the disease while visiting Dubai from July to September 22. She went to the hospital for a diagnosis on September 23 and tested positive to monkeypox 2 days later.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), monkeypox can spread from person to person through close contact, such as wounds, body fluids, droplets, or contact with contaminated objects like blankets and pillows.

The WHO has declared a global health emergency over the monkeypox outbreak as infections rose globally, with more than 35,000 cases across 92 countries and territories, and 12 deaths, as of August 15.
