Heritage preservation highlighted

(VOVworld) – Delegates discussed and shared experience at an international seminar entitled “The role of cultural heritage in education and peaceful development”, which opened on Tuesday in the southern province of Dong Nai. Dr. Nezamuddin Katawazi, managing director of the Peace and Human Rights Organization in Afghanistan, said: "I came from Afghanistan, a country that has been suffering from many conflicts over the past 3 decades. We have many experiences in cultural heritage preservation during war time. Many of our heritage items have been lost. I think the local authorities play very important roles in the preservation efforts as they are the most knowledgeable people about their local heritages and ways to protect them."

Delegates agreed that cultural heritages not only create opportunities for people to meet and share their different cultural backgrounds, but also play a key role in maintaining and developing peace. Heritage preservation requires the efforts of the whole society and this also helps bring nations closer together. The seminar was organized by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Asia Resources Foundation.
