This is the 4th direct talk with workers that the Prime Minister has held to listen to their aspiration and proposals. In his address, the Prime Minister said highly-skilled workers are the valuable resource of the nation and the driver of the national growth. He said Vietnam needs to do more in the future to increase the number of highly-skilled workers who currently account for only 19% of the workforce. Prime Minister Phuc said: “Vietnam’s economy is growing rapidly but its starting point was low. The capacity and competition of enterprises and the whole economy remain limited. The primary reason is the lack of highly-skilled workers, both in term of quantity and quality. We cannot develop our economy by using cheap labor and large capital but promoting science and technology and high-tech instead. We need to promote innovation and science development as a decisive factor of the national growth with human resource being one of the keys.”
