Buddhist monks, nuns, and followers organized Vesak Day - Buddha’s birthday - and the 50th death anniversary of Buddhist Monk Thich Quang Duc, who set himself on fire to protest the regime of Ngo Dinh Diem.
They donated 15 million USD to typhoon victims on the central coast, in the Central Highlands, and in the Mekong river delta.
Huynh Ngoc Thanh, Deputy Director of the City’s Department of Home Affairs and Director of Ho Chi Minh city’s Committee for Religious Affairs, said: "We expect that the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha will promote a sense of humanity, selflessness, and mercy to unite people. They will exert their knowledge and efforts to connect the administration and Buddhist followers and build a good reputation for the city’s Buddhist Sangha."
