Hoi An welcomes 10 millionth visitor

(VOVWORLD) - Hoi An ancient town welcomed its 10 millionth visitor Nuntira Mekaroon Kamol from Thailand at a ceremony on Friday.

Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said the welcoming is an annual activity in recent years as a way to impress visitors.

Nguyen Phuong Dong, head of the Tourist Guide Office of the Center for Culture and Sports of Hoi An said last year, the town welcomed the 8 millionth tourist

“The event marks a milestone in the number of visitors to Hoi An. More than 85% of the revenue from ticket sales will be used for the preservation and restoration of relics in the ancient town,” said Dong.

Since the beginning of this year, Hoi An received nearly 700,000 foreign and domestic visitors, including 400,000 foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 33%.

Hoi An was selected among 25 world’s top destinations in the world by TripAdvisor readers early this year.
