The event, held in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday for the first time, let Vietnamese people express their sympathies for Holocaust victims and survivors. Attendees, many of them local students, watched a Danish film based on the true story of a Jewish family in Denmark fleeing German fascism. Israeli Ambassador Nadav Eshar said the event aims to honor millions of Jews brutally victimized for their difference. Israel wants to spread the message that when crimes occur, people must join hands to fight them, Eshar said.

The United Nations has designated January 27 - the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp – the International Day of Commemoration for victims of the Holocaust.
