"Hosting APEC 2017 is a priority in Vietnam's foreign policy"

(VOVworld) – President Tran Dai Quang and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left Lima, Peru on Sunday, ending a successful trip to APEC 2016.

As President of the host country for APEC 2017, Mr. Quang delivered a speech at the closing ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit on Sunday, stressing that hosting the next APEC is a priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy and will build on the success of APEC to boost the growth of the Asia Pacific region. President Quang invited leaders and representatives of APEC members to participate in the APEC year 2017 in Vietnam, whose theme will be “Creating new driving force for a common future”.  President Quang congratulated Peru on successfully hosting APEC 2016 APEC.

The same day, President Tran Dai Quang and the APEC leaders attended a plenary session on food security, climate change adaptation and water access and on Asia-Pacific linkage. These were the key cooperation issues of APEC this year.

At a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the Lima summit, President Quang said Vietnam always considers Japan a leading and long-term partner, and expressed a wish to expand Vietnam's strategic partnership with Japan. The leaders agreed to boost multilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as people exchanges. They also discussed several global and regional issues, including the East Sea.
