(VOVworld) - US prosecutors submitted to a New York court on Thursday an indictment of Devyani Khobragade, former Indian deputy Consul General in New York, for lying in a visa application and not paying her housekeeper the minimum legal salary.

The indictment revealed new details in the case in which Khobragade and others are accused of intimidating the victim and her relatives to keep silent. Khobragade is also accused of making false statements to the court and to Indian authorities.

On Thursday, India postponed energy talks with the US scheduled for next week due to diplomatic tension over the Khobragade case. A spokesperson for the US State Department, Jen Psaki, said the talks will be re-schedueled. She insisted that Washington always attaches importance to the US-India energy partnership.

Previously, India asked the US Embassy to halt its commercial activities beginning next week and close a club operated by the Embassy in New Delhi.
