Indonesia urges closer regional cooperation to defuse East Sea tensions

(VOVWORLD) - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir has called on involved parties in the East Sea dispute to strengthen cooperation to ease tensions in the area. 

He made the remarks at the 27th workshop on managing potential conflicts in the East Sea in Indonesia on Thursday. The event was an initiative of the country to create cooperative opportunities for related parties through dialogue.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency’s reporter on the event’s sidlines, Mr. Fachir underscored the importance of cooperation for effective management of potential conflicts in the East Sea. He said that the related parties have agreed to implement 8 joint projects this year as part of efforts to maintain peace and stability as well as create economic benefits for all regional countries, especially those claiming territories in the region.
