Indonesians begin voting to choose their next president

(VOVWORLD) - 190 million Indonesians on Wednesday began voting to choose their next president, who is scheduled to take office in October.

Two candidates are incumbent Indonesian President Joko Widodo and retired general Probowo Subianto. Mr. Widodo chose Ulama Council Chairman Ma'ruf Amin as his running mate, while longtime rival Prabowo Subianto chose Jakarta’s deputy governor Sandiaga Uno. President Widodo wrapped up his election campaign with a 5-year plan to boost Indonesia’s economy, while Subianto vowed to resolve Indonesia’s financial problems and eliminate corruption.

The event is the world’s biggest 1-day democratic election. The election is expected to be the last political race of both candidates.
