The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said they will send new missile equipment to the border. “The outcome of this vote will be political chaos in the region. The honourable people of Kurdistan will not bear this disgrace" said Ali Akbar Velayati, chief foreign policy advisor to Iran's supreme leader. He added that Muslim countries will not allow “a second Israel”.

Iran and Turkey strongly oppose independence for the Iraqi Kurds, fearing it will inspire separatists among their own Kurdish populations. Iran is also worried about ties between the Kurds and Israel, the only government in the region supporting Kurdish efforts towards statehood.

The Kurd independence vote took place on Monday and most voters approved a separation from Iraq, election officials said Tuesday.
