Japan ready for peace talks with Russia

(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said that Japan is ready to negotiate a peace treaty with Russia.

He met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Singapore on Wednesday. Mr. Abe said he wants to discuss noth bilateral cooperation and a peace treaty and he is ready to give sufficient time to it.

Russia and Japan tried to sign a peace treaty after the Second World War but fell out over the Kuril Islands.
