Japan, US sign Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement

(VOVworld) – Japan and the United States on Monday signed a revised Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) to boost logistics cooperation between their forces in light of the deepening security alliance under Tokyo’s new security legislation that came into force in March.

According to the ACSA, Japan’s Self-Defense Forces (SDF) have been able to provide the US military with food, oil, transportation and other services as logistic support activities. But the provision of ammunition had been limited to military emergencies affecting Japan. The revised ACSA enables more flexible provision of ammunition based on the new security legislation.

The revised ACSA needs to be approved by the Japanese Diet. A Japanese official said that the Japanese government hopes to submit a proposal to revise the ACSA during the just-started extraordinary parliamentary session, which will last for 66 days.
