Japan’s ODA white paper links aid to support for Indo-Pacific strategy

(VOVWORLD) - Japan’s use of official development assistance (ODA) on promoting its “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy” is one of the highlights in Tokyo’s White Paper on Development Cooperation 2017.

Released on Friday by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Paper stated that Japan will provide ODA for developing countries in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on marine security projects and maritime law enforcement. Southeast Asian countries will be provided with patrol vessels and related equipment to help strengthen their ability to enforce maritime law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the next 3 years, Japan will grant 500 million USD for coastal countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including Vietnam and the Philippines.
