Koreas, UN Command agree to disarm part of border

(VOVWORLD) - North Korea, South Korea, and the United Nations Command (UNC) have agreed to disarm the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) this week.

The three parties agreed to carry out measures to withdraw firearms and guard posts at the JSA, Seoul's defense ministry said in a statement following trilateral talks. Last week, the two Koreas conducted a 20-day operation to remove landmines inside the DMZ.

A group of North Korean officials left for Russia on Monday amid media reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is planning to visit Russia later this month or early next month. Moscow earlier confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will hold a summit with Kim this year.
