(VOVworld) - Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry held phone talks on Friday about measures to strengthen the ceasefire in Syria.

The measures would include steps to improve access to humanitarian aid and to fight against acts of terrorism in Syria. Lavrov said the Turkish-Syrian border is actively used to send Islamist fighters to Syria via Turkey and reiterated Russia's call to close the border. He stressed the need of an agreement on the necessary actions as quickly as possible, including via the UN Security Council. The two leaders pledged continued support for the Syrian talks, under the UN aegis, adding that Syrian people need to determine their nation’s future.
