The animal husbandry sector involves animal husbandry activities and production and trade of animal feeds. Vietnam has not yet adopted a law on managing the sector. Since an ordinance on domestic animals and breeds was adopted in 2004, the sector has changed dramatically. Deputies stressed the need to promulgate the Law on Animal Husbandry to match international practice and Vietnam’s integration and improve State management of animal husbandry. Nguyen Thi Minh Trang, a deputy for Vinh Long province, said the new law is urgent to steer the sector to sustainable development: “Animal husbandry has become an important economic sector of Vietnam’s agriculture. Major changes have been reported in the sector. The 2004 ordinance fails to cover all production and trade activities, particularly the production of animal feeds, as well as planning and treatment of waste. It’s necessary to adopt a corresponding law to strengthen state management and create an important legal corridor for animal husbandry’s sustainable development.”
