National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu addresses the meeting

(VOVworld)- The Ministry of Justice held an online conference on Friday to review 2 years of implementing its legal assistance strategy in Vietnam. National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu and Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong attended the event. In his address, Luu stressed the need to reform the mechanism and organization of and mobilize necessary resources for legal assistance in Vietnam: “It is necessary to delve into the Project on reforming legal assistance approved by the Prime Minister and recommend practical policies to socialize legal assistance, making it suitable to each locality. We also need to fine-tune policies on legal assistance in poverty reduction, and socio-economic development programs, and promote human rights and citizens’ rights. It is also important to review the targets of the strategy and the legal assistance network project”.

The legal assistance strategy in Vietnam has connected authorities and people, contributed to protecting people’s legal rights and interests and raised the public’s legal awareness. Over the past two years, legal assistance organizations have dealt with more than 230,000 cases and helped more than 240,000 people, most of them poor or ethnic minority people.
