Lower Mekong Initiative Meeting opens

(VOVWORLD) -The 11th Lower Mekong Initiative Ministerial Meeting (LMI) opens in Singapore on Friday, involving Foreign Ministers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the US, and the ASEAN Secretary General.

They approved the restructuring of the Lower Mekong Initiative into two cooperative pillars. The first pillar of this restructuring process focuses on water resources, energy, food, and the environment. .

The second pilar is human development and connectivity. Gender equality, women empowerment, and public-private partnerships will be integrated into other LMI activities. The meeting adopted a joint statement, documents on LMI restructure, and an LMI Action program for 2016-2020.
