During his speech at the marching down the Champs-Elysees Macron said that Trump's presence was "the sign of a friendship across the ages" between their countries. Trump wrote on Twitter that it was a great honor to represent the United States at the Bastille Day parade.

The symbolic 2-day visit of Trump and the participation of American and French troops at the parade allow the two leaders to overcome disagreements and find joint statements in international issues, including the fight against terrorism, trade protectionism, and trade relations between two sides of the Pacific.
