Magnitude 7.0 earthquake kills scores in Indonesia

(VOVWORLD) -A powerful earthquake struck the Indonesian tourist island of Lombok on Sunday, killing at least 98 people and shaking neighboring Bali.

The latest quake, which triggered a brief tsunami warning, damaged buildings as far away as Denpasar on Bali, more than 160 km from Lombok.

The quake, magnitude 7.0, struck the northern part of Lombok early Sunday evening at a depth of 15 km.

Since July 29, 5 earthquakes of magnitude 3-7 have rocked Lombok, killing 17 people and injuring 400 others. More than 20,000 people were evacuated.
