The drill on maps and simulation was supported by US search and rescue forces and several international organizations in Vietnam. In a hypothetical situation, Vietnam’s search and rescue forces were overwhelmed by natural disaster and peers from the ASEAN and US then joined efforts to overcome consequences of a super typhoon. Colonel Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Defense Ministry’s Search and Rescue Forces, is in charge of the drill operation:“The drill on maps aim to raise commander knowledge and logistical tactics, especially in simulated models. This will be applied in reality to better prepare for disaster response".
The US Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam, Susan Sutton, said cooperation in search and rescue is a priority in Vietnam – US relations to raise preparedness capacity against human born and natural calamities.
