Moscow expects US to take specific actions to improve bilateral ties

(VOVWORLD) - The Kremlin welcomes statements by US president Donald Trump about cooperation with Russia, but would be more pleased with specific actions, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

Trump noted on Monday that he would consider lifting sanctions from Russia if Moscow agrees to work with Washington on certain issues like Syria or Ukraine.

Washington needs to be specific about what it expects from Russia in Ukraine issues, and why nothing is expected from the Ukrainian authorities, Peskov said. Russia is contributing to the diplomatic settlement of the situation in Syria, the normalization of life there and facilitating the return of refugees like no other country in the world, Peskov added.
In an earlier speech, Peskov said President Putin still hopes to pull Moscow's ties with Washington out of a deep crisis, but nobody will go into mourning if this ambition is not reciprocated by the US.
