(VOVworld) – Newly-elected National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has pledged to fulfil the tasks assigned to her by the Party and the people to build the 14^th National Assembly into a united and creative legislature, who acts for the people and national pride and dignity.

Ms. Ngan was speaking at a media conference on Saturday immediately after she took the oath: “As the National Assembly Chairwoman, I will make full use of the experiences left from my predecessors and work with members of the NA Standing Committee and NA deputies to fully undertake my responsibility and authority in accordance with the Constitution and laws.”

Ms. Ngan said the new legislature will continue to promote its responsibility in law making, oversight and decision making and to amend the human rights and citizens’ rights to match Vietnam’s Constitution and the UN Charters. Economics-related laws will be adjusted to be compatible with the market economy and international commitments. The National Assembly will pay special attention to the oversight of bad debts by, for example, changing the structure of domestic and foreign debts, shifting from short-term to long-term debts to ease the payment pressure.
