Ms Ngan expressed her hope that the two countries would work together to address consequences of the war. She asked the US Congress and administration to continue supporting Vietnam in detoxifying Da Nang and Bien Hoa airport. She urged the US Congress to support the development of bilateral economic-trade ties, and the elimination of the US Department of Agriculture’s monitoring program on catfish which creates overwhelming technical barriers that could affect millions of Vietnamese farmers. She said she hoped the two countries’ legislatures would strengthen exchanges, especially between Friendship Parliamentary Groups, to increase mutual understanding and trust.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of regional and global issues including the East Sea issue. They emphasized the importance of ensuring peace, stability, safety and security of navigation and overflight in the East Sea and settling disputes through peaceful means with respect to diplomatic and legal processes and international law.
