The deputies declared Wednesday that China’s placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone violates Vietnamese sovereignty and jurisdiction, and flouts infringing international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.
