A majority of deputies agreed on the need to approve the law to provide a legal basis for cyber security, meet the requirements of socio-economic development, safeguard national sovereignty and security, and protect the rights and benefits of individuals and organizations in cyberspace. Trieu Tuan Hai, a deputy for Lang Son province, said:

Vietnam is one of the most cyber attacked countries in the world, double the world’s average. Hostile forces and cybercriminals use the internet and social networks to carry out activities that violate national security and social order. Therefore, the Law on Cyber Security needs to be adopted.”

Deputies said the Law on Cyber Security should avoid overlapping with the existing Law on Information Security.

On Thursday, the National Assembly approved the revised Law on Public Debt Management, which will take effect on July 1 next year.
