A torch was carried from the Ho Chi Minh Museum to the podium by 3 outstanding athletes: Hoang Xuan Vinh, Bui Thi Thu Thao, and Pham Thi Thao. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, said: “Everyone should keep fit and respond to the national movement of physical training to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s example. Healthy people will make a healthy country”.

The competition will run until December 10. Hanoi currently leads the medal tally, followed by Ho Chi Minh City.
