(VOVworld)-Millions of people joined countdown parties welcoming the New year 2017 across Vietnam on Saturday night. In Hanoi, the countdown parties in the Old Quarter saw performances by top Vietnamese singers and included a TV link featuring New Year celebrations around the world.

“We are very eager to welcome the New Year. My family are here to share joy with the people. We hope that we’ll be more successful and Vietnam will be more prosperous in 2017”, said Tran Thanh Hai, one of the revelers.

New Year celebrations also took place in major cities like Hue, Da Nang, Can Tho and Binh Phuoc.

In the US, New Year’s Eve is the time for family reunion for the local Vietnamese community. “We often gather at a friend’s house for the  New Year party and share the foods each family have prepared before. The party runs until midnight”, said Vietnamese American Van Anh.
