Before the festival, local people held a ceremony to pray for favorable weather and bumper crop. Various cultural and sports activities to welcome the New Year were also held.

Fishermen in Da Nang city went fishing the same day to pray for a year of good catch. Fisherman Dinh Van Thanh in Tho Quang fishing village, Da Nang city, said the weather was good this year and fishermen began fishing on the second day of the year: "During the early days of the year, fishermen prayed for good catch and favorable weather.”

Phan Thanh Tuan, a fisherman in Man Thai ward, said: "We went fishing on the second day of the New Year and earned 200 to 250 USD. This means each of us earned 20 USD  to 35 USD a day.”
