This is the first year the festival has been held at the municipal level. During the 3-day event, there are a pilgrimage to Sac Forest War Martyrs Cemetery to remember soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national defense, a rite to pay tribute to the founders of the land, and a ceremony for local fishermen to celebrate a bumper catch.

Part of the festival is an exhibition showcasing photos and objects of the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve and fishing activities of local fishermen. A food street will introduce specialties of the coastal district.

The festival also features a procession from the sea to Whale Worshipping house, a release of lanterns to the sea, folk games, lion dances, and other traditional performances.

Le Minh Dung, Chairman of Can Gio district People’s Committee, said: “These activities maintain the traditional culture of local fishermen. These cultural, art, and sports activities and folk games will acquaint visitors with the land, its people, and its cuisine.”
