Peace and security, poverty eradication, zero hunger, quality education, climate action, and inclusion will constitute the priorities of his presidency, Bande said. When he takes the reins at the opening of the 74th session in September, he promises to promote partnerships between stakeholders to ensure peace and prosperity, particularly for the most vulnerable.

Mr. Bande spoke about a number of high-level events that will take place at UN Headquarters in New York to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda, including a High-Level Political Forum, the Climate Change Summit, the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development, and a high-level meeting to review progress made in addressing the priorities of small island developing states.
The president-elect is focusing on the promotion of human rights and the empowerment of women and youth and says he will promote gender parity throughout the UN, starting with his own office.
