North Korea projectile appears to be short-range ballistic missile: South Korea

(VOVWORLD) - North Korea fired what appeared to be two short-range missiles on Saturday, South Korea said, in a “show of force” against US-South Korea joint military exercises.

The launch was aimed at testing capabilities of North Korea’s new type of short-range missile it is developing on its own, the South Korean presidential office said in a statement.

The missiles were fired from near the eastern city of Hamhung in South Hamgyong Province and landed in the Sea of Japan to the east of the Korean peninsula. This is North Korea’s fifth launch in recent weeks. The launches come after US President Donald Trump said he had received a "very beautiful letter" from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Mr Trump said Mr Kim was unhappy with the current US-South Korea joint military exercises and that was the reason for the recent launches. Trump said he would have another meeting with Kim, however he didn’t reveal when and where.
