Pacific armies seek to enhance joint response to common challenges

Pham Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Defense Deputy Minister, made the remark during the 42nd Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS 42) that opened in Hanoi on Monday. Mr. Giang voiced his hope that experiences and initiatives raised at the seminar, will contribute to improving the effectiveness of humanitarian and disaster relief activities carried out by armies in the region.

The seminar features three plenary sessions on land forces’ initial responses to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, multilateral cooperation, and enhancing roles of regional cooperation in the efforts.

The Indo-Asia-Pacific frequently faces various natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, due to climate change and global warming.
