The decision was announced after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee. It responds to India's decision earlier this week to revoke the special status granted to the Indian-controlled Kashmir region.

India's presidential decree, announced on Monday, will see the revocation of Article 370 from its constitution, which guaranteed  Jammu and Kashmir its special status. Indian parliament passed a bill to split the state into two Union Territories. India deployed more than 40,000 extra paramilitary soldiers to Jammu and Kashmir, maintaining high levels of alert.

The Pakistani parliament on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning India’s measures to alter the status of the divided region.
