(VOVWORLD) -Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday urged the US to hold talks with the Taliban to bring peace to Afghanistan.

Asif said Pakistan condemns the US’s new policy on Afghanistan, saying the Trump administration’s militaristic approach in the war-torn country represents a failed policy. He added that Pakistan will tell the UN that for peace to return the region, force is not the solution. President Trump announced his new strategy in Afghanistan last month – sending 3,500 more troops to Afghanistan, raising the number of US troops to 14,500.
