Mr. Malki told the official radio station Voice of Palestine that he will file an application with the UN Security Council to upgrade Palestine's status from observer state to full member state when he arrives in New York next month, as directed by President Mahmoud Abbas. To secure full membership, the Palestinians need the support of at least nine of the Council’s 15 members. Palestine became a UN observer in 2012.

Foreign Minister Malki added that he will ask the UN Security Council to implement resolution 2334, asking for an investigation by the International Criminal Court into Israel’s building of new settlements.
