Supported by the My Lai Peace Fund, My Lai Peace Memorial Park will cover 41 hectares near Chu Lai airport, Quang Ngai City. Construction is expected to take 3 to 5 years.

Truong Ngoc Thuy, chairwoman of the My Lai Peace Foundation, said: “The park was inspired by peace parks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It will connect with other peace parks around the world.”

Dang Ngoc Dung, vice chairman of Quang Ngai People’s Committee, said: “Once completed, the park will be a historical site where young people can learn about Vietnam’s pain and loss during its war for national liberation. It will serve as a symbol of cultural exchanges and cooperation, and the healing of war pains for the people of Quang Ngai and Vietnam as well as pacifists everywhere.”

To commemorate the day 50 years ago when 504 civilians were killed by US troops, Quang Ngai will hold a film week, a photo exhibition, and a ceremony on March 16.
