Party and State officials pay Tet visits to former leaders and disadvantaged people

(VOVworld)-Representatives of Hanoi authorities on Tuesday visited former Party, State and National Assembly leaders and presented gifts to policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged families ahead of Tet or the traditional Lunar New Year Festival.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh paid Tet visit and offered gifts to poor households and victims of Agent Orange in Nam Dinh province. He urged Nam Dinh authorities to create the best conditions for disadvantaged people to enjoy a happy Tet.

The same day, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan extended New Year greetings to dignitaries of the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha in Hanoi. Mr. Nhan, who is a Party Politburo member, called on Buddhists to continue upholding the spirit of national unity to build Vietnam into a powerful, democratic, equal and prosperous country.

National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong visited former leaders and veteran revolutionaries in the northern province of Son La. The visit tributes their contributions to national development and defense.

Tet gifts worth millions of USD have also been given to the poor in Phu Tho, Ha Tinh and Quang Nam province.  

The 2017 Lunar New Year will begin this Saturday.
