Party Central Committee’s 6th meeting ends

(VOV) – The 6th meeting of the Party Central Committee concluded on Monday in Hanoi after sitting for 15 days. The committee discussed socio-economic situation and plans, the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, planning of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat and key party and state positions. The delegates also gave their feedback on the report on criticism and self-criticism by the Politburo and the Secretariat. To close the meeting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong summarized the meeting’s outcomes. Mr. Trong outlined future tasks: “In the remaining months of this year and next year, we need to further stabilize the macro-economy, and pay more attention to a safe financial and banking system, as well as the fight against waste and corruption in public investment and spending. The business and investment environment need to be improved, while bad debts should be settled to ease the difficulties for enterprises. Agriculture and tourism are prioritized. 3 strategic breakthroughs need to be made, combined with reforms of growth models and economic restructuring to ensure political stability and create a firm foundation for future development.”

Party leader Trong underlined planning of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat:“This is the first time the Party Central Committee has discussed and issued a resolution on the issue. The planning of top cadres should stem from political demands, the need for party building and national construction and defence  during the industrialization and modernization process. Promising leaders should be earmarked at an early stage, while cadres, who were born in families of workers, farmers and intellectuals are prioritized. We also need to increase the number of young, female and ethnic officials, and those whose relatives have made great contributions to the nation.”

Party leader Trong said that the Party Central Committee’s 6th meeting has successfully come to an end with a large consensus on major issues of economics, education, training, science, technology and party building.
