Party leader receives representatives of foreign communist, workers’ parties

(VOVworld) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong received heads of foreign delegations who were in Vietnam for the 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) in Hanoi on Saturday.

The Party leader praised the topics discussed at the meeting and stressed the importance of sharing information and experience in the lead up to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Great October Socialist Revolution in 2017. Mr. Trong said Vietnam consistently pursues national independence and socialism and thanked the foreign communist and workers’ parties for their strong support for Vietnam’s past struggle for national liberation and today’s national renewal and development.

The foreign delegates expressed their deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam for their impressive achievements over the past 30 years of renewal, which is source of encouragement for the current communist and workers’ movements.

Earlier, at the closing ceremony of the meeting, delegates elected a 19-member working group for the 2016-2018 tenure, including the Communist Party of Vietnam. The meeting approved an appeal which stressed the importance of the struggle for peace and socialism, the protection of national independence and sovereignty, and the settlement of disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law. The delegates also expressed support for and solidarity with the Vietnamese people’s socialist construction and protection.
