Party, State, National Assembly leaders receive Chinese Premier

(VOVworld) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has described the Vietnam-China friendship as a valuable asset for both peoples, which both sides needed to constantly renew. Trong was speaking at a reception for visiting Chinese Premier Le Keqiang in Hanoi on Monday. The Vietnamese Party leader said Vietnam unswervingly treasured the friendly neighborliness and comprehensive strategic partnership with China. He spoke highly of the outcome of talks between the two Prime Ministers, calling on both sides to increase contacts and substantial cooperation. Trong also urged appropriate measures to resolve pending issues between Vietnam and China through peaceful negotiations based on the agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders for the benefits of their people, peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large. 

For his part, Premier Li said that the Chinese Party and Government valued the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam and pledged to do their utmost to advance bilateral ties.

Receiving the Chinese Premier in Hanoi the same day, President Truong Tan Sang applauded the concrete results of Li’s visit to Vietnam, including the establishment of 3 working groups on infrastructure, monetary and maritime cooperation within the framework of the governmental negotiation delegations on the Vietnam-China border. Sang stressed the need to strengthen political trust between the two Parties, States and countries. Regarding maritime issues, the Vietnamese President reiterated that both sides should control the situation, and consistently settle disputes by peaceful means and on the basis of international laws. He called for efforts to speed up negotiation on the Tonkin gulf’s outer area to make substantial progress on delineation and cooperation for joint development of the area. Sang said Vietnam and China should seek measures which would be acceptable to both sides and did not impact each other’s positions.  

President Sang conveyed an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping and others senior leaders to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

On Monday afternoon, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received in Hanoi visiting the Chinese Premier. Hung expressed his hope that the two countries’ National Assemblies would boost information and delegation exchanges as well as coordination at parliamentary regional and global forums. He called for the strict implementation of the signed agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues between Vietnam and China as well as resolution of deputes via peaceful means on the basis of international laws, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of Sea.
