People mourn former PM

(VOVWORLD) -Thousands of people on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai at his house in Tan Thong Hoi commune, Cu Chi district, HCM city.

Mr Khai passed away at 1:30am on Saturday at the age of 85. Among the first mourners were Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education Vo Van Thuong and former President Truong Tan Sang. In the memory of locals, Mr Khai was a simple and caring leader.  

“We are deeply grieved by the death of Mr Khai who we consider a father and a brother. When he was alive, he treated us as his own offspring and helped us as much as he could,” Phan Thi Hoa of Cu Chi district recalled.

An official ceremony to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister will take place from 8:00 am on Tuesday to the end of Wednesday at Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh City. The burial ceremony is scheduled at 11:00 am on Thursday in his hometown in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City. During 2 days of national morning on Tuesday and Wednesday, State offices and public facilities will fly the national flag at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be postponed.
