People with disabilities empowered

(VOVWORLD) - Hundreds of people with disabilities attended a meeting on Thursday in Hanoi to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3.

This year’s theme focuses on empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality as envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that pledged to “leave no one behind”.  

Nguyen Van Hoi, Director of the Department for Social Protection of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, told the meeting: “We accompany people with disabilities with all our hearts and minds. We’ll do our best to ensure that policies on their rights are well implemented.  We’ll raise our voice and propose more initiatives to promote good deeds for people with disabilities in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.”

Nguyen Hong Ha, Director of Independent Living Center, said: “People with disabilities have certain ability. If they can integrate and live equally and are encouraged and given conditions, they can promote their abilities. We want to live independently and be useful persons.”
