Pham Minh Chinh becomes Vietnam’s new Prime Minister

(VOVWORLD) - The National Assembly on Monday elected Mr. Pham Minh Chinh the new Prime Minister of Vietnam.

Mr. Chinh, 63, has been a member of the Party Central Committee since 2011, a Politburo member since 2016, and is currently a National Assembly deputy. 

“A plan of action will be created to fulfil the 13th National Party Congress resolution, focusing on 6 key tasks and 3 strategic breakthroughs. It’s important to continue building a socialist state governed by law and of the people, by the people, and for the people and uphold the rule of law. Administrative reform will be accelerated with the people playing a key role in monitoring and controlling power,” the new Prime Minister said after the swearing in ceremony.

Prime Minister Chinh pledged to boost the fight against corruption and waste, develop a digital economy, safeguard national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and ensure national defense, security, and law and order. 

He said Vietnam will continue its external policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification for peace, cooperation, and development.
