PM meets foreign leaders on sidelines of ASEAN 33

(VOVWORLD) -During a meeting on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison agreed that the two countries will work together to promote free trade and settle common issues after the Comprehensive and Progress Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership takes effect.

The leaders also shared their view on speeding up negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Both leaders underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and navigation and aviation safety in the East Sea, peacefully resolving disputes on the basis of international law, strengthening coordination at the UN, the Asia-Europe meeting, and during Vietnam’s Chairmanship of ASEAN.

On Wednesday, the Vietnamese Prime Minister had discussions with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He called on Chile and Canada, the two members of CPTPP, to increase cooperation to make the agreement more beneficial to member countries. Meeting with Republic of Korean President Moon-Jae-in, Mr. Phuc applauded Seoul for its cooperation with ASEAN and its initiative to organize the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in 2019 in the Republic of Korea.
