PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s Lao visit illustrates determination to consolidate special unity

(VOVworld) – Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s working visit to Laos renewed the two countries’ determination to intensify their special solidarity, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung told the press.

During the visit from September 13-14, PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and other leaders. At the meetings, the two sides agreed that the close relations and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos are valuable assets and vital to their revolutionary causes. They agreed to enhance economic connectivity through recently signed trade agreements, resolve policy, mechanism, and procedure obstacles for their business circles, and increase bilateral trade in 2015.

Both sides promised to strengthen bilateral cooperation and cooperation with other ASEAN countries to maintain ASEAN’s shared commitments on important issues like the East Sea. PM Nguyen Tan Dung pledged Vietnam’s maximum support to Laos when it assumes the ASEAN Chair in 2016. The two countries will continue to implement agreements on Mekong sub-region cooperation reached by the two Political Bureaus.

Trung cited PM Nguyen Tan Dung as saying at the ground-breaking ceremony of a potash salt mine project of the Vietnam National Chemical Group in Khammuane province that such projects economically benefit both countries and demonstrate Vietnam’s willingness to contribute to its neighbour’s socio-economic growth.

Deputy Foreign Minister Trung said the successful visit shows the resolute determination of both countries to foster their special political trust, benefiting their economic, trade, investment, energy, and transport cooperation.
